I took my grandma to get dentures from westmount denture. They provide amazing services. Everybody there is very welcoming. My grandma has some joint issues in the face . We got dentures from other places before but they never fitted good. We are so relieved we found this clinic. Michael is an amazing denturist. If I could leave 10 star for Mike even that is not enough. I visited him multiple times for my dad's denture and looks like my dad had some difficulties with his new denture and had to visit multiple times to get it fixed and adjusted. With our every new visit Mike and all the staff at clinic become more and more friendly and showed huge respect for my elderly father, rather than getting frustrated with a difficult patient on each visit. Mike at personal level provided some services out of respect to my dad which I can't even mention here. I am very Thankful for his services and whole team at Westmount Denture.

I have had an exceptional experience at this clinic. Robyn, Michael, and Parm are very professional. I searched for a number of years for anyone to accept me as a patient. My needs are not so common, these issues made everyone turn me away. I am also a difficult patient. Many referrals later landed me at Westmount Denture Clinic. They welcomed me & I felt had confidence in them. My results were amazing! If everyone could have Michael as their denturist we would all be smiling, bright. I know I am fortunate to have found this office.

False teeth dentures, commonly known as standard dentures, are removable dental appliances designed to replace missing teeth. These teeth are made of prosthetic or artificial materials such as metal, plastic, or porcelain, and are designed to fit over the gums and under the lips to provide structure and function similar to natural teeth. They are suitable for individuals who are missing some or all of their teeth, depending on the degree of tooth loss.

The role of false teeth dentures is to restore the patient’s ability to chew, speak, and smile with confidence. One of the main advantages of using dentures is that they provide a comprehensive solution to tooth loss at a more affordable cost compared to other dental options, such as implants.

Creating false teeth dentures involves 7 main steps:

  1. Consultation and Examination: At the initial appointment, your dentist conducts a thorough examination of your oral health and discusses your specific needs and expectations for the dentures. This stage sets the foundation for the entire process by understanding your unique requirements.
  2. Preliminary Impressions: Next, impressions of your mouth are taken to create custom trays that will precisely fit your mouth. These trays ensure accuracy in capturing the shape and contours of your gums.
  3. Final Impressions: Using the custom trays, a second set of impressions is taken to obtain detailed impressions of your gums and surrounding tissues. This step is crucial for achieving an accurate fit for the dentures.
  4. Face Bow Bite Registration & Pin Tracer: A face bow transfer device is utilized to capture the unique alignment of your jaw. This measurement helps in replicating your natural mouth movements, ensuring optimal functionality of the dentures.
  5. Wax Try-In: Wax impressions are created based on the previous measurements to assess your bite and the positioning of the teeth. This allows for adjustments to be made before the final fabrication of the dentures.
  6. Ivocap Processing and Insertion of New Dentures: The dentures are fabricated using the SR Ivocap InjectionIvocap processing technique, which ensures precision and durability. Once ready, they are inserted and checked for fit and comfort.
  7. Post Checkup for Adjustments: After wearing the dentures for a trial period, a follow-up appointment is scheduled to assess their fit and function. Any necessary adjustments are made to ensure optimal comfort and performance.

Restores Chewing Function

False teeth dentures are crucial in restoring the ability to chew effectively. With these dentures, patients can enjoy a variety of foods without discomfort or difficulty, thereby improving their nutrition and overall quality of life.

Improves Smile Aesthetics

One of the most noticeable benefits of false teeth dentures is the enhancement of facial appearance and smile. These dentures are designed to look natural, helping patients regain their confidence and self-esteem.

Prevents Shifting of Teeth

Dentures help prevent changes in facial structure that can occur due to tooth loss. By filling the gaps left by missing teeth, dentures can maintain the alignment of the remaining natural teeth and support facial muscles.

Economic Solution

Compared to other dental restoration options, dentures are a more affordable solution. This makes them accessible to more patients who want to restore the function of their teeth and improve their appearance.

Proper care of dentures is essential to maintain their condition and prolong their life. The following is a daily guide to cleaning and caring for false teeth dentures:

Remove and Rinse Dentures After Eating

Just like natural teeth, food particles can get stuck in dentures, which can eventually lead to plaque buildup. Over time, these particles can erode the dentures, weaken the appliance, and cause stains. Therefore, rinse dentures thoroughly after eating to remove food particles.

Practice Oral Hygiene

Even if they don’t have natural teeth, you should maintain good oral hygiene habits. Poor gum health can affect the fit of dentures and may require adjustments. For this reason, it is important to rinse and clean the mouth after removing the dentures, brush and clean any remaining natural teeth, and rinse the mouth with mouthwash.

Brush Dentures Regularly

In addition to rinsing, you should clean their dentures more thoroughly at least once a day. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a mild denture cleaner. Avoid whitening toothpastes and hot water, as these can damage the appliance. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents containing bleach or chlorine.

Soak Dentures Overnight

Some dentures need to be soaked overnight to help maintain their shape and keep them moist. Soaking can also help clean them more thoroughly. Use plain water or a mild denture solution for soaking.

Check Dentures

You should regularly check their dentures for any signs of damage. Early detection of damage allows the dentist to repair it before it worsens.

Regular Check-Ups

Besides self-checking, you should have regular check-ups with their dentist. This ensures that the dentures remain in optimal condition and fit properly.

Generally, false teeth dentures last between 5 and 10 years. However, the lifespan of dentures can vary depending on your chewing habits and how well you care for them. Some patients may experience difficulties wearing dentures due to parafunctional activities, such as teeth grinding, which can accelerate wear and tear on the dentures.

To extend the lifespan of your dentures, it is important to adhere to a proper care routine. This includes avoiding hard foods, preventing teeth grinding, practicing proper cleaning techniques, and scheduling regular dental check-ups.

Standard dentures and precision dentures differ in several key aspects:

Materials and Selection

Standard dentures typically utilize a limited number of tooth types, molds, and materials, resulting in a narrower choice of shapes and styles. In contrast, precision dentures are crafted from higher quality materials and boast greater durability, offering a wider selection of teeth in various shapes, sizes, and styles.

Suitability and Function

Standard dentures rely on natural suction, adhesive cream, or powder for stability. In contrast, precision dentures utilize special attachments that securely anchor the false teeth to natural teeth or dental implants, providing a more secure and stable fit.

Comfort and Aesthetics

Precision dentures are crafted using advanced technology and offer a higher degree of adjustability, resulting in a more comfortable fit and natural appearance. On the other hand, standard dentures provide a more economical option, albeit with satisfactory comfort and aesthetics.

Cost

Standard dentures are typically more economical than precision dentures, making them suitable for individuals prioritizing cost or seeking a quick solution. Precision dentures, while offering a relatively higher price point, provide a sophisticated technological guarantee and enhanced durability.

Despite their benefits, false teeth dentures can present some potential problems, such as discomfort, irritation, or damage. Common issues include sore spots, difficulty in adjusting to the dentures, and breakage or wear over time.

Preventing these problems involves proper denture care, regular adjustments, and timely repairs. Regular check-ups with a denturist are crucial to address any issues early and ensure that the dentures continue to fit and function well.
