I took my grandma to get dentures from westmount denture. They provide amazing services. Everybody there is very welcoming. My grandma has some joint issues in the face . We got dentures from other places before but they never fitted good. We are so relieved we found this clinic. Michael is an amazing denturist. If I could leave 10 star for Mike even that is not enough. I visited him multiple times for my dad's denture and looks like my dad had some difficulties with his new denture and had to visit multiple times to get it fixed and adjusted. With our every new visit Mike and all the staff at clinic become more and more friendly and showed huge respect for my elderly father, rather than getting frustrated with a difficult patient on each visit. Mike at personal level provided some services out of respect to my dad which I can't even mention here. I am very Thankful for his services and whole team at Westmount Denture.

I have had an exceptional experience at this clinic. Robyn, Michael, and Parm are very professional. I searched for a number of years for anyone to accept me as a patient. My needs are not so common, these issues made everyone turn me away. I am also a difficult patient. Many referrals later landed me at Westmount Denture Clinic. They welcomed me & I felt had confidence in them. My results were amazing! If everyone could have Michael as their denturist we would all be smiling, bright. I know I am fortunate to have found this office.

A soft liner dentures is a soft, flexible material that fits between the surface of the denture and the tissues of your mouth. This layer absorbs the shock between the hard acrylic of the denture and the sensitive gum tissue, thereby reducing irritation and pain. This specially processed soft layer provides comfort for people with receding and flat gums that are often more sensitive to the pressure of dentures. Dentists often recommend soft-lined dentures for patients with sensitive gums, irregular gum contours, or those who are uncomfortable with traditional, hard dentures.

Gentle on Gums

Soft liners dentures are made from a flexible material that can significantly relieve pressure points and soothe sore gums. For patients with sensitive gums, the soft lining acts as a cushion, distributing pressure evenly and preventing irritation. According to a Journal of Prosthodontic Research study, patients with soft liners reported significantly decreased gum pain and increased overall denture comfort.

Adjusting Gum Contour

Soft liner dentures have the unique ability to conform to the natural contour of the gums, ensuring greater fit and comfort. The process involves a fitting and testing phase where the liner is shaped to match the patient’s gums, optimizing fit and functionality. This quick adaptability helps create a stable denture base, reduces the risk of slippage, and improves overall denture performance.

Soft linings provide an extra layer of protection to dentures, thereby reducing wear on the denture base. This added protection helps maintain the structural integrity of dentures, potentially lengthening their lifespan. A study in the Journal of Dentistry found that dentures with soft liners experienced less wear and tear, suggesting they may last longer.

Tips for Caring for and Maintaining Soft Liner Dentures

Clean thoroughly: Before applying soft liner dentures, clean your dentures thoroughly to remove any food particles or bacteria.

Gentle brushing: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush when brushing your dentures to avoid damaging the soft liner material. Avoid abrasive toothpaste and harsh chemicals.

Oral hygiene: Maintain good oral hygiene by gargling with antiseptic mouthwash daily.

Proper storage: Store your dentures properly in a damp environment, such as water or a denture soaking solution overnight.

Regular check-ups: Schedule regular check-ups with your dentist to ensure the health of your teeth and dentures.

Difference Between Soft Liners and Hard Liners

Soft liner dentures, as the name suggests, are made from softer and more flexible materials compared to hard liners, which are made from rigid acrylic. The main advantage of soft liners is their ability to provide superior comfort, especially for patients with sensitive or irregular gums. On the other hand, hard liners offer more durability and are better suited for patients with well-formed gum ridges.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Soft liners offer superior comfort, especially for those with sensitive or irregular gums, as the soft material conforms to changes in gum contours over time. However, this flexibility comes with the trade-off of potentially requiring more frequent replacements compared to hard liners. Hard liners, on the other hand, provide excellent durability and a good fit, making them a suitable choice for patients with well-formed gum ridges. Generally, dentists often recommend soft liners for patients who have sensitive gums or experience discomfort with hard liners.
Soft liners dentures offer several advantages, particularly in terms of comfort and gum health. Patients who switch to soft liners often experience a significant improvement in their quality of life. Testimonials from users frequently highlight the relief from gum irritation and the enhanced comfort of their dentures. Denturists recommend soft liners for patients with sensitive or irritated gums due to their cushioning effect and adaptability.
